Private General Practice
In a busy world and when you want to book a GP appointment with a highly experienced Doctor and be seen promptly, you can book an appointment with one of the GPs at the Aberdeen Clinic.

You will have the choice of consultation length to ensure your problem is properly attended to. You will be attended to confidentially, the Doctor will listen to you, examine and treat appropriately and work with you to ensure your continuing well-being. A variety of blood and other investigations can be carried out as needed. The Doctor will liaise with your NHS GP if needed. The Doctor can attend to the whole range of medical issues, or issues such as mood problems that might be troubling you.

We carry out a range of General Medical and more specialised medical activity. A range of other Therapists and Specialists also work from the Aberdeen Clinic and so your initial GP appointment can provide a gateway to further investigation and treatment. We can also direct you to other therapists who may be able to help you.

GP appointment lengths are normally 15 or 30 minutes. If you want a longer appointment - please ask.

A 15 minute consultation costs £80 and a 30 minute consultation costs £150. There is no cost for issuing a prescription during a consultation

We can also offer telephone consultations priced similarly.

Arranging onward referral (arranging appointments and associated administration) out-with the Aberdeen Clinic is an additional cost of £45. For a referral to a Specialist within the Aberdeen Clinic there is an additional cost of £30. There is no additional cost for onward referral to our Therapists.

Certificates for any external purpose are an additional cost of £45

All services such as blood tests, immunisations, etc are individually priced - please ask for details.

When you book an appointment, we will take a £40 deposit to secure that arrangement and this will be deducted from your final fee. At the discretion of the Aberdeen Clinic, this deposit can be carried forward if an appointment needs to be re-arranged. This may not be possible for changes made on the day of the appointment.

Private Children's Appointments
We can also see children privately. This can be a more convenient way of arranging a Doctor appointment and a more relaxed way of exploring treatment options and onward referral.

We can offer General Medical assessment and blood testing, where appropriate. We can facilitate onward referral to Specialists in Aberdeen and elsewhere in Scotland or the UK.

Basic Medicals & Health Checks
It is often reassuring to be able to access a periodic health check - a health 'MOT' as it is sometimes called.

We offer:

1) Basic Health Check:

This comprises a health and lifestyle questionnaire followed by a half hour appointment with the GP. The GP will carry out a basic physical assessment including height and weight and BMI calculation; blood pressure; sample of urine testing; examination of ears, eyes, chest and heart; abdominal examination and a visual check of any skin lesions etc.

Onwards referral if needed for further investigation.

An individualised report which will focus on any medical issues and ways of improving your own health

This costs £175. Additional costs may apply for eg blood testing, etc. Please allow an hour for completion of everything.

2) Comprehensive Medical Review:

This is a far more comprehensive and detailed assessment designed to assess you thoroughly and to provide detailed discussion and feedback on your health status.

The Comprehensive Medical Review requires completion of a detailed pre-assessment questionnaire. There will then be a short session with a Nurse where you will be weighed and measured. From this your BMI will be calculated. You will have a sample of urine tested. Vision will be screened. Blood will be taken for comprehensive Biochemical and Haematology screening (for males, this includes Prostate PSA testing). You will have a 12 lead ECG.

This is then followed by at least 45 minutes with the Doctor for a physical examination and discussion. Following this you will receive an individualised report with advice on how to improve your well being and advice on any follow up needed.

Onward referral will be arranged for any further testing needed

The Comprehensive Medical Review costs £400. Additional costs will apply for any onward referral.

Private Prescriptions
Private prescriptions are sometimes needed simply to provide additional treatment for a known condition or if you are travelling and have left medication behind. Generally, if you can provide adequate proof of being on a medication (communication from a regular doctor, a medicines container in your name, a repeat prescription form, etc), then it may be possible to provide a prescription without you having to see a Doctor. Generally this would apply to regular medication where there is a low level of risk.

If you wish to see a Doctor face to face, please book an appointment using the guidance under 'Private General Practice'

If you feel that you do not need to see a Doctor and you can provide the necessary evidence for your medication, there will be an initial administration charge of £30 and a £20 prescription fee. A doctor will assess the request and prescribe if appropriate.

For subsequent repeat prescriptions, only the £20 fee applies.

Please note, for prescribing controlled drugs, an appointment with a Doctor will always be necessary. An administration fee may also be incurred if extra work is needed to establish the justification for prescribing of controlled drugs.

Pharmacists dispensing fees will vary and are additional to the 'ingredient' cost. We have no control over the fees Pharmacists may charge and you may wish to ask the Pharmacist about this before submitting a private prescription.

Home and Hotel Visits
We are able to offer a home visit or hotel visit by a Doctor if you are unable to come to the Aberdeen Clinic, although we would always try to encourage you to attend the clinic, whenever possible, as the facilities and capabilities of the medical staff are much better in that environment.

The Doctor will assess you and provide advice, treatment and a prescription if needed. The Doctors can also arrange your admission to hospital if the situation is considered an emergency - or onward referral to other Specialists and facilities if needed.

The cost of a visit is £280. Additional travel costs may apply - you will be advised of these at the time of booking. If a visit becomes protracted (more than 1 hour away from the clinic) additional costs will apply.

The cost of the visit will be charged at the point the GP is requested and departs the clinic to carry out the visit.

Group 2 Vehicle Licence Medical (D4)
Doctors at the Aberdeen Clinic are experienced in offering the HGV, LGV, PCV (D4) licence medical examinations - either initial assessment or for licence renewal.

If you wear glasses or have any vision condition, you will need to attend your own Optometrist in advance to have page 1 of the documentation completed.

You will need to have your weight and height measured, Blood pressure will be taken and a sample of urine tested. The Doctor will then go through the D4 form with you and sign this off if appropriate. If any issues arise, it may be necessary to seek further information about you before proceeding. The Doctor will discuss this with you if needed.

You will need to present photographic identification.

The cost of a D4 medical is £130.

Hay Fever Injections
Please see the section on the web site regarding the Aberdeen Clinic's allergy management service.

We operate a comprehensive allergy assessment service beginning with a Nurse led assessment, the offer of skin testing for allergens, access to blood testing and even access to complex desensitisation. Please see the section of the website that deals with this service.

The Doctor can advise on the best medication to use for Hay Fever sufferers and how best to use this. We can also recommend the use of the intra-muscular steroid injection - Kenalog - at the start of your phase of suffering if indicated.

We will give information to you to pass to your NHS General Practitioner if a Kenalog injection is given. The injection may be used in patients aged 16 years and above on the advice of a Doctor. The injection is given deep into the buttock muscle.

A Doctor consultation and administration of the Kenalog injection costs £100 to £110 depending on the dose used. The Doctor may also issue a private prescription if desired for ongoing medication.

Private Referrals
The Aberdeen Clinic has access to a number of Specialists on site. We can also arrange referral to other local Specialists and can arrange for investigations such as Ultrasound, x-ray, MRI scanning and CT scanning directly. This may be an efficient way for you to access onward referral for such services if you are insured or simply if you wish to access such investigations for your own reassurance.

We also have good knowledge and understanding of Specialist services elsewhere in Scotland and the UK.

Sometimes, the Doctor at the Aberdeen Clinic may decide it is better that you be referred within the NHS. The Doctors at the Aberdeen Clinic can make referrals back into the NHS in Scotland, in liaison with your NHS General Practitioner.

In most circumstances, when referring onwards, we will seek your permission to engage with your NHS General Practitioner to ensure good communication and exchange of information for longer term management of problems.

Please see the guidance under 'Private General Practice' to arrange an appointment with a Doctor.

Blood Tests
The Aberdeen Clinic can arrange blood testing on request for a range of specific purposes. It may not be necessary to see a Doctor for these, if it just a blood test that you want and you know specifically what is required. Blood testing can be done by our Nurse Practitioners on site.

Such testing includes:

• General biochemical testing, liver function, kidney function, glucose, etc
• Thyroid testing
• General haematology testing, haemoglobin, iron, folate, vitamin B12 levels
• Prostate specific antigen
• Hepatitis (A, B and C) and HIV screening
• Other sexually acquired conditions such as Syphilis
• IgE and RAST for allergy testing
• IVF related blood testing for clinics away from Aberdeen
• Other testing as requested

The Aberdeen Clinic has access to the very high quality 'Doctors Laboratory' service. Results are communicated to you as promptly as possible - the analysis times for some tests can vary and we can tell you what these times are for individual tests.

When you book an appointment for blood testing, we will take a £40 deposit to secure that arrangement and this will be deducted from your final fee. At the discretion of the Aberdeen Clinic, this deposit can be carried forward if an appointment needs to be re-arranged. This may not be possible for changes made on the day of the appointment.

Joint Injections
Doctors often now inject steroid substances to reduce inflammation and ease pain. These can be given into joints or into soft tissues that are inflamed. Many patients struggle to gain access to these interventions and so the Aberdeen Clinic can present a re-assuring assessment and injection if needed without any lengthy wait for treatment.

You will be examined and the benefits and risks of steroid injection will be discussed with you and you will be asked to give your consent if you decide to proceed.

The Aberdeen Clinic Doctors can carry out a range of steroid injections including:

• Knee injection to alleviate symptoms of OA
• Shoulder injections to alleviate rotator cuff or sub acromial pain
• Trochanteric Bursa injection
• Tennis and Golfer's Elbow
• De Quervains Tenosynovitis
• Trigger finger
• Aspiration and steroid injection to 'ganglions'

For a first appointment, you will require assessment by a General Practitioner, who will then proceed to carry out the steroid intervention if deemed appropriate. Generally, a first appointment, to include the treatment, will take 30 minutes. Subsequent appointments for any follow up treatments may take less time.

A 15 minute consultation costs £80 and a 30 minute consultation costs £150. The cost of the injection will be an additional £10 per injection given.

Sometimes, the Doctor may recommend that you access some more complex joint treatments and if you then wish to pursue this, referral onwards can be initiated.
